The nose calls to mind the first buds of spring, with fresh, earthy aromas of flowers, cherries and herbs. Those light notes continue onto the palate, but a lurking, medicinal undertone of roots, austere tannins and acrobatic acid create a balanced wine that is decadent yet sophisticated.

An old-school blend of dusty dried cherries, Tuscan powder, worn leather and hints of spiced citrus wafts up from the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino. It washes across the palate with ripe red fruits and sweet herbs as a collection of minerals and grippy tannins collect toward the close. This lingers on, zesty yet structured with residual acids counter-balancing it's youthful structure and hints of licorice that slowly fade.

The 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino is rich with resinous aromas of tar, balsamic, black cherry, and baked earth. It has full body and structure as well, with tannins that move into the somewhat bittering side of tea leaf on the finish along with meaty tannins and notes of turned soil and cherry pit. That being said, its floral perfume remains long on the palate, and it is a lovely effort for the house. Drink 2024-2034.
